Mirror 2 Mirror (M2M)

A duo of endless possibilities...

Formed in the summer of 2019, Mirror 2 Mirror (M2M) is a violin-cello duo that values passionate performances, collaborations, and working with living composers. The duo features violinist, Dan Qiao, and cellist, Carolyn Regula.

Like two, facing mirrors that cast an endless reflection, M2M does not want to limit themselves to classical repertoire. In addition to these standards, M2M has a desire to give living composers a voice, already having given world premieres. Also, M2M believes in the value of collaborating with other musicians, using their versatility as a string duo to join other players and create an infinite amount of chamber group combinations.

Qiao & Regula met while performing on Stephen Ferre’s composition faculty recital at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Since then, their mutual love for modern music sparked a connection that changed their performance lives. Their debut as M2M was at the Mostly Modern Festival (MMF), where they were one of few groups selected to perform in their 2019 Chamber Music Showcase. They were both invited back to MMF in the summer of 2023 with full fellowship scholarships.

Since then, M2M has given a world premiere in New York City, featuring original music by composer, Zaq Latino. They also won 3rd prize in the professional ensemble division for the 2022 Ernest Bacon Memorial Award. Granted by the American Prize, this award recognizes the top performances of pieces by living composers who reside in, or are from, America.
